If you’re planning a summer getaway this year, make sure your hair enjoys it just as much as you do. Here’s Studio 56’s tips for healthy holiday hair.
*A cut before you go away is always a good idea – even if that is just a trim to get rid of damaged and split ends which can travel up the hair shaft.
*Ideally, if you can, leave colour treatments until you return as the sun can change shades, particularly reds and you may risk brassy tones. If you can’t wait, invest in a good UV sunblock product for hair – Redken’s Colour Magnetic Range is a good option.
*When going in the pool or sea, saturate hair with fresh water first. Hair can only absorb so much water so this will help protects it to some extent from chlorine and salt.
*Style long hair in a way that reduces the amount exposed directly to the sun – e.g. a messy bun with the ends tucked in. Pack a hat too!
*Avoid the use of heated styling appliances (less to pack!) and allow your hair to dry naturally whilst away. You could take some soft bendy rollers for curls but for fuss free styling, allow your hair to do its own thing with a de-frizzing product like Rebel Tame.
*Invest in good quality hair products. A cleansing shampoo that removes chlorine is a basic as is an intensive conditioning treatment.
*If you do return from holiday with damaged hair, all is not lost. A trim and a few professional treatments can do a lot to restore it to glory.
